Writing and Sharing Meaningful Experience

Writing and Sharing Meaningful Experiences
Life comes with many twists and turns. Experience is everything.
We go through life making some great decisions and unfortunately some extremely bad decisions. The more we learn, the easier it is to make the better decisions.
Flying a plane for the first time
It was 1995 and time for my first flight in flight school. I was absolutely terrified as I approached the T-34C Mentor! Flying an airplane had been a dream since childhood, but there I was facing the reality of actually doing it. My instructor said, “OK, 1stLt. Currin, you have the controls,” and my heart beat rapidly from the combination of excitement and nervousness. Now fast forward 24 years. Flying a helicopter in and out of the Martinsville Speedway for a NASCAR race this weekend is just another day on the controls thanks to 3500 hours of flight experience.
Sharing experience with others
Over the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to interview different people on Convene Radio. We all walk a different path in life, and we all have unique stories to share. Sometimes our paths are altered from good experiences and others from bad experiences. Learning from a bad experience (whether our own or another’s) adds to our personal wealth of knowledge that helps to make better decisions in the future. Learning from others’ experiences as well as sharing our own experiences benefits us all.
Eric Burgiss of the 108 Challenge.
Just over a year ago, Eric had what could have easily been a life ending overdose. After leaving the hospital he went to his mother’s house to recover, grabbed one of his baseballs from when he was a kid, and marked a thread for every day that he was sober. Through that process he realized that there are 108 threads on a baseball that represent a day of recovery. Today Eric is on his fourth baseball and helping others. Eric is a peer-to-peer counselor, meaning that he has walked in those shoes and can share his experience to help others. Listen to his recovery story and join his 108 Challenge group on Convene Hope and Support.
Stories can be shared in multiple mediums including photography
Ethan Wells grew up playing soccer while his father recorded those precious moments on film. Memories like scoring the winning goal in the 2014 NC State Championship game are forever captured in a photo that tells a story.
Ethan himself has become a passionate photographer who has the gift of storing telling through a camera lens.
During a recent medical mission trip, he captured the pure, raw emotions of the people he met in the pictures he took. Ethan plans to share his experiences to help teach others how to tell a story through photography in Convene Photography.
Convene brings us together to share our experiences in specific communities with people that have the same passions and interests. Whether it is a love of books, cars, or soccer, Convene is a place where those who want to learn and those who want to share their knowledge can come together in one place.
Although there are already people writing blogs, producing podcasts, or recording YouTube videos with a story to tell, Convene offers a platform to pull all these people together. Continuing the conversation allows people to interact with your content in a new, exciting way.
